Our Stories
The first time I went to the dermatologist I went in for myself and left with my dad getting diagnosed with skin cancer. From that point on, I have done research about the different types of skin cancer and was even able to catch my dad's squamous cell carcinoma. My dad grew up in poverty and never had access to sunscreen or information about sun safety. Therefore it is very important to me that we were able to create a site where people can not only inform themselves but have the opportunity to receive and share information about sun protection.

Growing up in Florida, a state with one of the highest UV indexes in the country, it is extremely important to wear sunscreen but I noticed that most high schoolers don't do this. With The SPF Initiative, I hope to educate others about the dangers of not wearing sunscreen and help them protect their health.

I have met several people who have been diagnosed with different types of skin cancer I saw the struggles they went through and the thought that their conditioned could of been less severe by practicing sun safety made me want to help build this website.
